What is the most fun in your job?

The most fun thing for me is being able to interview heroes of mine for oral histories. I love hearing untold stories about space history - there's always something new to uncover, even if you think a particular topic has been covered hundreds of times. Plus, I always have to pinch myself afterward - I find it unbelievable I get to talk to my heroes.

What is it like to put your expertise to work in the space sector?

My area of expertise has always been research - I'm very good at sleuthing. For me, writing about spaceflight history has been the perfect match for my skills. I've used my abilities to "sleuth" to uncover untold stories and facets of space history that haven't been explored or are little explored. You can find so much in archives and collections. It is indeed inspiring, and each day brings a new challenge!

What advice would you give fellow non-tech space enthusiasts if they want to pursue a job in space?

I encourage people just starting to be fearless and bold - don't be afraid to contact people and ask the sometimes challenging questions. People respect you more for being authentic and "real" and not shying away from the sometimes tough stuff.
